Kirk’s correct, the younger they are, the lighter they get. The original
colour is dark blue, and I had a reference to it being RAF Roundel blue - but
the precise blueness of that is unknown to me. I found a grade of Dulux (Big
name paint maker, Paddy) that’s a darn good match, with some help from my then
local small paint supplier who used the high tech paint matching gizmo. Took in
a plane and said ‘I want to match this’ and gave him the story. It turned out
he was originally a carpenter and joiner, so he was tuned right in to what we do
