IT = Information Technology.   It encompasses what used
to be called data processing, software engineering,
computer programming, etc., as well as more modern
applications like web site construction, network work,
and data mining ( fancy phrasing for what's often the
exploitation of commercial databases to figure out who
to annoy with phone calls and junk (e)mail begging your
support for this or that bit of institutional mendacity ).

IT departments tend to measure their success by the only
means that they can measure - the length of their meetings.
