88864 Daniel Indrigo <daniel.indrigo@s... 2001‑01‑16 bio update
It's probably about time I updated my bio since it's been a few years
since the first one.

Name: Dan Indrigo
Birthday: May 17, 1965
SWMBO: Sue
GITs: Christine age almost 7 and Julianna age 2 1/2
Home: Ajax, Ontario, Canada
Real Job: My day job at Sun Microsystems has me staring at a computer
screen all day, well several actually.

I've been around woodworking as long as I can remember. Dad is a
carpenter by profession though he was trained as a cabinetmaker in Italy
from a very early age. So there have always been tools and wood around
as long as I can remember. I remember gluing up scraps of wood as a kid
to form pieces of abstract "art". I even recall having some wood, glue,
hammers and nails and maybe even a small saw back in my kindergarten
class, I'm sure that would never be allowed now. I built a few things as
a kid at home and continued later on in shop class. Through high school
and university I worked summers in construction, first as a laborer and
later as a carpenter. After university, swmbo and I bought a house and
soon after the never-ending basement renovations started. Because of
this I haven't had much opportunity to pursue much in the way of "real
" woodworking but I can honestly say I've become a pretty good
carpenter, not to mention drywaller, tile setter, plumber, electrician
etc. And most all of the basement reno has been done with galoot methods
as much as possible, I don't drill concrete with a brace ;^). Four or
five years ago I decided I was going to start accumulating a set of
tools so that I could pursue woodworking as a hobby once the basement
was done. Well it's still not quite done, a little painting left to do
and a bit a trim to install and that's about it. The tool accumulation
has progressed better than the basement has though. When I wrote my
first bio you could count the real old tools I owned on your fingers,
now if an octopus had hands he'd still need to call over some friends to
accomplish the same feat. I don't have any infills or anything exotic
but I've got enough to attempt most projects. I'm pretty well done
accumulating metal, well except for chisels, I'm told I have a chisel
problem ;^) How can I turn them down when they usually cost $1 or less!
Now I'm mostly just filling out the woodies selection. Purely by
accident I've got more Malloch planes than any other maker so I tend to
gravitate towards those though I've not turned done other makers planes
when I've encountered them in good condition at a good price. I've also
started into blacksmithing since my last bio so that opens up another
area of tools to search out. I've acquired an anvil, several post vices,
a post drill and an assortment of hammers, just enough to get going.
I've built a tiny coal forge out of swmbo's cast iron frying pan, some
metal bars and a small blower graciously donated by Phil Koontz. Darrell
LaRue and I put it to work just this past weekend making some travisher
blades since we're planning on taking a chair making class this year
some time. They turned out not entirely ugly and may actually work ;^)
Next time, scorps!

I guess that will do for now.

Dan
