Howdy Gang,

I've been lurking on the list for a long time now (really long
actually) and finally felt guilty enough to post a bio.

Like many of you, I have been around wood more or less all my life.
My grandfather was a surgeon who became a very accomplished woodcarver
after retiring. I have many memories of him sitting outside in the
shade during the summer carving ducks and birds. My Dad is more power
tool oriented. Throughout my childhood there were remodeling projects
of varying magnitudes in progress. I remember waking up one morning
to the sound of a chainsaw running - in the kitchen. I learned a
great deal about construction working side by side with my Dad on a
variety of projects. Don't worry, most of them didn't involve a
chainsaw. I spent a summer home from college helping my Dad restore a
huge (extremely run down) 19th c. carriage house. More recently we
built a "cabin" on my parents land in Vermont. I say "cabin" because
Dad's idea of a cabin is a little more refined than many...

I am probably one of the younger porch dwellers, having not yet turned
30. I guess that gives me plenty of time to futz around learning the
right way to do things. I have been married for about three years
now. We bought a house two years ago, and 1.9999 years ago I decided
to start filling it with tools and half finished projects. Right now
I'm limited to a small corner of the basement behind a plastic sheet.
My handtool assortment started when Samantha (SWMBO) got me a Record
#4 for our first Christmas in the new house. I guess I must still be
a neanderpyhte because I think it does pretty well for a lot of jobs.
Of course, I have since added to the trade imbalance between Ashby and
the civilized world.

My day job has me in front of a computer designing computer chips.
The list helps to remind me that the world doesn't (fortunately)
revolve around computers. On second thought - maybe it does - can you
imagine if we had to write all this out longhand??

Have Fun,
Tad Truex
