36432 Gary Watts <gwatts@h...> 1998‑02‑06 Newbie bio for me
Hi fellow tool folks,

I was a previous lurker but unsubscribed. I decided to give it another
go yesterday. It was recommended in the FAQ to give a brief explaination
when starting so here goes:

Been involved in woodworking off and on for many years. I finally built
a shop this last year after *makin' due* for many years with virtually
no tools or space to work in. It's huge compared to the previous one....
it's 9' x 11' on the end of my carport. I initially did the Norm thing
and bought lots of p*w*r tools. A friend, who's completely over the top
in power tool land (had 15 routers, a 36" Tanewitz bandsaw, 36" Oliver
disc sander, Bridgeport, Oliver sliding table saw...you get the idea)
found me a old #5 Stanley for $15.00. After much cleaning, adjusting and
sharpening, I tried it out. A magical effects settle over me at that
moment and the plane bug was born. I now have 10 planes and love every
one of them.

I build lots of different stuff. I've done cabinets, built in's, and
other furniture type stuff (currently finishing a curly maple coffee
table) but my primary interest is in solid body guitar building. I've
built 17 in the last 18 years. Hand tools are greatly useful for
instrument building.

I live in Corvallis, Oregon. I work for Hewlett-Packard as a Tooling
Engineer. I have a machining background and love designing stuff. Been
here for 17 years. I also enjoy playing music and do so at church
these days.

Gary Watts
