Today I got my ass kicked right and proper.

I was trying to do something that was damn set against it.
It was just, just wrong. Didn't fit, couldn't ft,
Was never going to work.

  Like hell you sez

Round after round I fought. Beat so bad I had to take breaks. A cold
shower one time.
  Then go back in.

Something tore loose in one of my favorite knees about 2/3 of the way
though, but screw it, I hopped and sat on things and fought.

   I took the win.
It gave up.
But it was in the 12th round.
and I pretty much got as good as I gave.

You can't imagine how sore I am. Not only can I barely walk,
I hurt in so many places I can't keep them all satisfied at once.
My foot is barking as I type, drugs or no drugs.

ever happen to you?
yours scott

All that from opening a box of Cheerios??

Feel better!

Jeez Scott. Get better soon. Baby anything that’s torn 2/3 way through for a
long time.

Didn’t blow out a knee but I hooked a foot on the corner of a heavy roller chest
and tried to move it that way because my hands were full (yup lazy and stupid).
Got a groin pull that made infrequent things like breathing painful for a month.

Yes. Usually involved large mineral deposit or tree stump. Feel your
pain man.
275793 scritch <capeflattery@c...> 2022‑06‑27 Re: Casual Sunday Project
Yep. Took a simple walk last winter and found a good place for pics. My knees
were already a bit chronically stiff, but I forced 'em to kneel so I could get.
that. shot.

Knee hasn't been the same since, even with x-rays, physical therapy, exercise,
and time, but I did get that shot.
275795 gtgrouch@r... 2022‑06‑27 Re: Casual Sunday Project
Yes, but you won in the end!

I love the posts on this one: mineral deposits, tree stumps, that
perfect picture . . .

With me, it was driving a hollow support into the ground. You know how
you can feel if something is moving as you drive it in? Well, this
felt like it had hit something hard and wasn't moving. My 8-pound
sledge was stinging my hands with each hit, but I had only 6" farther
to go.

I made it.

Six months later, I had my first neck operation.

Stay strong,

Not to be contrarian, but there is also a perspective that Scott actually lost
in the end.

We teach kids self control so they don’t injure themselves hammering or with
knives, guns, etc.

I can really relate to the “go hard til the job is done”, and at the same time
I’m learning to evaluate the, “at what cost” aspect.

I’m far from bubble wrapping myself. But boy have I backed off of helping people
lift heavy things when moving. Not worth it.

And….when I put the anvils on all new stumps last week I just bent down and
picked them up.

Just know your limits.

yeah, moving anvils. never again for me. lifted my 196 lb peter wright
(using very proper technique, but no belt) moved it 6 ft and set it down on
its stand at the end of november. later that week the weakness/numbness
started in my left leg; turns out i bulged l3/4 onto the nerve root. six
months later and lots of acupuncture, and chiro later it’s 90% better, but
i won’t ever do that again solo.
275798 Tim Pendleton <tpendleton@g...> 2022‑06‑27 Re: Casual Sunday Project
Me too! No more bouncing anvils like cute infants for me either. I rigged
up a hoyer lift, used to lift patients in a sling, to lift anvils and
such. The hoyer lift is good for 450lbs and my Peter Wright is 150, the
Century is only 100lbs, so I am set for now.

If I ever have the inclination and opportunity to get an anvil too heavy
for the lift, hopefully, Wifey will get me into a straight-jacket and
rubber room before I can act on the urge...

taking my shoes off…

Amen. I was just out pulling weeds. Tripped over my own feet, tipped a planter
full of dirt across the concrete patio and left some hide off my elbow on said
concrete. I laid there a bit waiting to see if anything else was going to fall
off. Trying to get up stumbled again and went careening again across the freshly
groomed garden and luckily ran into the side of the house before I fell again
into the shrubbery. Some days! They seem to be coming more frequently though. 🤨

Ya know there bud, this getting old crap sucks 18 ways this side of
Sunday without adding any extra aggravapuckingvation to the mix.  Having
a go round with hernia surgery back in March and having two knees that
are constantly reminding me, that they need some tending too, makes one
kind stop and think about what one is doing.

Yeah I'm still out there on the hunt and occasionally walk something
heavy back to the truck, when I could just as easily drive into the
market and pick it up at the dealer stand, but you do have to start
taking it easy....

Just saying

Tony

Agreed.....I don't mind moving my main user anvil, 182 pounds of Reflinghaus,
but I use a hoist to move my 450 pound Fisher. When it's down, it's down. It's
a great paperweight as if anything blows out from underneath it, I'm not worried
about whatever it was!

It's so easy. I tore a groin ligament simply standing up from
cross-legged. And then failed to see my doctor. Chronic pain....

275808 Patrick Olguin <paddychulo@g...> 2022‑06‑28 Re: Casual Sunday Project
Fellow Creaky GGs,
It's a little disquieting to realize that I have been on this list for very
nearly half my life. This thread has brought us to our natural zenith of
self-actualization in that we have become The Four Yorkshiremen (your
colleagues, Richard) from Monty Python. A proud moment indeed.

A not so proud moment was when I cut my middle fingertip to the bone when I
was brushing shavings from the benchtop with my left hand, while still
holding a very sharp patternmaker's chisel in my right hand. The good news
is that it didn't require stitches, as the cut was so clean it sealed back
up after I kept pressure on it for thirty minutes and then closed it up
with crazy glue. The blood flow to the middle finger is impressive.

Best,
Paddy

Another gravity storm? I've experienced a lot of them in my lifetime. Got
the scars and bumps to prove it, unfortunately.
