274586 Stager, Scott P. <StagerS@m...> 2021‑09‑20 Bell System Pointed Pean hammer
Tony again had a Bell System Pointed Pean hammer on his for sale list. I have
seen those other places and other times.

Can someone enlighten me on how that pointed pean contributed to the
productivity of a Bell System Lineman?

Hitting the end of a through bolt to drive it out? Something else?

Curious and all.

Scott (the one in Missouri)

From another site I frequent:

As far as the peen goes, I was issued one but that part was never
discussed. In the end, there were more than a few things that were
carry-overs from the past that just kept going.

Kirk in Half Moon Bay, nothing exciting to report from the weekend.

Having used these for a long time I believe the shape has everything to do with
balance and having the most mass directly behind the striking face. If both ends
of the head were the same shape the hammer would be comparatively unwieldy.
