Gathered Galoots, Andrew's post got me to thinking. I have a crappy Stanley "Handyman" #3 that I'd like to use as a scrub. Can anyone recommend a radius to grind the iron? Or is that more a matter of personal taste? It was my father's, and was the first plane I ever used. I wouldn't part with it for anything! Ken |

There is no standard. I have two that are very different, and both of them appear more curved than Andrew's. My antique German wood-bodied scrub with a 1-1/4" wide blade has an aggressive radius of only 1-1/2", whereas my Lie Nielsen #40-1/2 has a 1-7/16" wide blade with a radius of 3". With the same blade projection, the wood-bodied plane takes off less material, but is easier to push. --Chris Check out H-frame, the site for vintage Black & Decker Workmates: https://h-frame.weebly.com/ -----Original Message----- From: oldtools@g...
