Howdy All and Merry Christmas,
I'll update my bio since I haven't actually been on the porch lately,
just under and around the corner where I could hear and learn without
being noticed. Once in a while I have corresponded with individuals and
have learned a lot from them and from porch conversations. My computer
went crash and when I got a new one I put it up at the house instead of
at the shop like before. At home I have too many other things to do. I
do take time to read some of the posts and do a little research.
I have learned that the brace is more effective than an electric
screwdriver, no recharging is necessary and if I misplace it I have
dozens of others to use. I use the old tools when I need to, which
isn't often. I've learned a lot about the hundreds of planes in the
shop and other tools that were completely unknown to me 1 1/2 years ago
when I first found you. When I first bought the shop I was worried
about learning how to tell Walmart glass from antique glass and soon
learned that it's the tools that would pay the rent on the shop and I
better be learning about them.
My saw playing has turned into a "girl band" called Grandmas on the Go
(The G G's). We have a 65 year old hammer dulcimer player who plays a
hand made instrument she bought from a craftsman nearby. A 70 year old
dulcimer player who got her hand crafted instrument in Kansas City, an
80 year old string Bass player who got her instrument in Siberia and it
had to have its own passport to get it out of the country. I play my
copper plated saw and several others I have picked out of the dozens at
the shop. We are booked for 5 events in December and 2 in January.
When guys are looking for a good sharp saw I usually tell them some are
sharp and some are a little flat. The other day at a "gig" at the local
museum I showed a shop teacher how to play the saw, he was eager to get
back to class and show his boys how to use a saw!
I have some favorite customers that take a little extra time to teach me
things about tools. It seems the more I learn the more I find I don't know.
Over the past year I have sold tools to woodworkers, blacksmiths,
jewelers, tinsmiths, leather workers, calligraphers, tool sharpeners, etc.
I look forward to seeing some of you who go through Nebraska on your
holiday trips. If I'm not in the shop please call me and I'll come
right down, my number is on the door. If you tell me you saw my post on
the Porch, I'll give you a good deal and some free pliers!
