11684 bill adams <wladams@b...> 1997‑01‑08 Bio of a Galoot Wanna-be

Greetings galoots!

I've been lurking in this place for a few weeks and have decided I am
definately staying so here's my BIO.

First the boring stuff:

I live in Deridder Louisiana, that's in the southwest corner of the
state.

The Beauregard Parish library has an interesting home page at
www.beaulib.dtx.net
if your interested in lil' ol' DeRidder.

I'm 4 decades old and don't feel a day over 6 decades.

I served several years in the US Navy first 4 of that as a Boiler Tech
then the rest as a Fire Controlman. ( which has nothing to do with
putting out fires, I was basically a Radar Tech)

I presently work for ABB Industrial Systems, in their pulp and paper
division, working with equipment that checks various parameters of the
paper as it comes out the end of the paper machine sends that info to a
computer which then makes adjustments throughout the machine to control
those parameters.

Now the interesting stuff (woodworking)
I've been trying to learn woodworking from books and magazines for a
couple of years now. The church of Norm just didn't warm my soul.
So I have seached mostly invain for how to info on using hand tools.
I have collected a fair variety of hand tools, some antiques (a 1930s
vintage Stanley #7C among others) and am still building my collection.

I am presently working on my first Big project, A hutch for SWMBO.
It was to have been a Christmas present but was delayed by a minor back
injury. I'm using all pine boards glued up to size. Have learned much
about gluing up and planing smooth from this project and it's not half
done.

I am very happy to find you guys as I need all the encouragement I can
get from galoot types, I work (9 to 5) with two woodworkers who worship
at the altar of Norm the Prophet of the church of the multi-national
sponsor.

Can I post now? :)
