Greetings Good Galoots,
After lurking for awhile over my father's ( Tom Holloway ) shoulder while
visiting him, I recently got online and have been lurking from the comfort
of my own home. Decided it was time to stamp the mud off my boots and step
up on the porch.
I am 34 and have lived in Williams Or., South of Grants Pass, West of
Ashland, for the past 15 years with my wife and two children aged 16 and
12. I have been an organic farmer, worked in reforestation, and currently
do wildlife surveys. Though fascinated by "the way things used to be", and
love to watch and listen as my dad works in his shop, I don't claim to be
that much of a wood worker. While I have planted ~ 1/2 million trees and
collected the seed for countless more to eventually end up in a Galoots
vise, my oldtool passion is blacksmithing ( the Farmers Museum in
Cooperstown being my first exposure to the art ). I use a coal fired forge
with a hand crank Champion blower, and hammer (with my right hand) over a
Hay Budden anvil. Some of you may have seen or used some of my handforged
holdfasts which my dad has sold for me on this list.
I have enjoyed the humor and attention to detail on this site and look
forward to continued learning.
