-188 "Christopher E. Dunn" <DUNNC@e...> 1970‑01‑01 bio

I've been lurking for quite some time over in the Archive and finally
subscribed to the list. Although I wasn't aware of the bio custom until I
subscribed, I have posted a few items/questions in the past. Now that I have
learned of the customary bio, here goes:

My name is Chris Dunn and originally hail from Newport, RI. The Dunn family
relocated to San Diego, CA in 1973 while I was in Boston attending Northeastern
University's College of Civil Engineering (Class o' 75). Although it took a
while, I did find them and relocated myself permanently in 1979. Since 1992, I
have lived in Huntington Beach with my wife Celia and, later, our 2 yr old
bundle of joy Jennifer.

I work for Electronic Data Systems (you know, Ross Perot's old company)
Unigraphics Division. Unigraphics is a collection of interactive software
products intended for mechanical design, manufacturing, and analysis
(CAD/CAM/CAE/EIEIO). I have used their software since 1983 and am employed as
an Applications Engineer involved in Quality Control. I direct software testing
that simulates actual customer usage of our products. Basically, they make it,
we break it.

I have had an interest in woodworking since, as a grade schooler, I used to
stop on my way home from catechism classes to visit my mother's Uncle Jimmy, an
accomplished cabinet maker. I used to watch him make antiques and such in his
basement shop. I later demonstrated an aptitude for woodworking in Mr. Fritz's
classes in Jr High. When I moved to HB, I finally had room for a workshop and
have been able to revive the interest.

Some old tools inherited from Uncle Jimmy and a few transitional planes from my
maternal grandfather started me on my way towards galootdom. It was rec.ww,
oldtools, Stanley B & G, and ordering a #78 from MofA that set the hook. In
addition to my transitionals and the #78, I've acquired, tuned, and restored 7
other metallic relics. All were found at local swap meets (wish I had had the
bug when I lived in NE). I've really been bit, but I really do like using old
tools (can you say "ScarySharp(TM)"?). Just wait 'til I hit the lottery.

In addition to a coffee table and matching end table, I recently built a doll
cradle for my daughter. I am currently working on a toy box and a rocking
horse (from the cover of a recent BH&G Wood Magazine).

My other hobby is kite flying. I can be found during the summer weekends at the
beach south of the Huntington Beach pier flying 4 to 6 single string kites
which support numerous cartoon character, fish, and bird windsocks, as well as,
a variety of spinners. Hmmmmm, wonder if they make Stanley plane windsocks...
