Hello out there all you Galoots!

Let me introduce myself. I have been lurking now for only a week and am
already impressed with the collective knowlege of hand woodworking tools and
techniques.

I am 31 years old and work during the day as a Design Engineer, designing
Plastic Injection molds for mostly the automotive industry. I live in
Interlochen Mich. with my SWMBO who is wonderful and little Ms. Galoot in
training who is 4 and always needs to help dad around the house with projects.
[Isn't parenthood great or what!! ;~)]

My average work week is 50+ hours and doesn't always leave time to do any
recreational woodworking or anything else for that matter after the things that
really need to be done every day, but I do enjoy reading and obtaining
information on old woodworking tools and how to use them.

I have never been one to enjoy using p*w*r tools and have always had a great
respect for them and the damage they can do very quickly. Even when I was
growing up and tried to make something, I would go to my dad's hand tools first
and do as much as I could without help. I don't have a collection of tools,
more like an assortment that are useable to accomplish what I need to do. They
consist of a Stanly Defiant smoothing plane and Stanley #27 transitional, draw
shave, & crosscut saw that belonged to my grandfather. I have picked up a
nice bevel gage and square at an antique sale but as I have said, not much time
or effort in obtaining more. (I'm not so sure it was a good idea for me to get
involved with this bunch!!! :-) :-)

My biggest project so far has been a hutch for SWMBO which only has the
buffet finished. The cupboard is roughed out and waiting to be completed, and
SWMBO is still waiting with patience running out it seems! It has 3 fielded
doors and 2 drawers in the buffet and 1 fielded & 2 glass paneled doors and 2
drawers in the top and has been a good challenge and learning process for me.

Enough rambling for now, time to get back to it.

Glad to be here,

Jim Thoreson (j_thor@e...)
Interlochen Mi.
