Greetings Gentle Galoots,
I suppose that I have lurked long enough - so
here goes. I wander about in my custom furniture
shop making some shaving and some, yes it is ugly
but true, sawdust. I have been using hand tools
for quite a while, but certainly lack the list's
expertise in old tool lore. I have only recently
bought any really nice old tools and must report
that the MofA, Bruce Marcus, Sanford Moss, Chris
Berger, Chuck Zitur, Bob Brode and other gentleman
have noticeably enriched my life. What wonderful
stuff, er, galoot loot. I live and work in
Birmingham, Alabama, having come here from
northern California by way of Suffolk, England for
reason that elude me for the moment. I worked as a
bit twiddler for a number of sometimes long and
always interesting years before deciding to build
something somewhat more rewarding than remote
imaging systems. My customers are now so much more
pleased with the results of my labors. Synthetic
aperture radar and satellite imaging was certainly
an intriguing way to pass the time, but never
provided the sort of visceral pleasure that any
especially well crafted and beautiful joinery
does. I have learned an astonishing amount from
all of you and am deeply grateful to the list for
its kind spirit and generosity. I hope to be able
to contribute something meaningful. I am married
and have 2 wonderful and grown children. Thanks
everyone &

All the Best,

Steven Paloma
