I finally got my set of 13 HSS forstners from LV today.
http://tinyurl.com/y6nw7gkp Upon opening I was stunned to find that the box
screamed out in bold print "made in China". I can't say that LV made me
aware of this as the source of manufacture. I looked again, didn't see
anything, but am not claiming misrepresentation. It was my fault for not
looking for that. So why am I against "made in China", well I'm not really
but I haven't yet felt comfortable with Chinese industrial manufacture of
tools. I'm sure there are good ones, but I haven't been impressed as of yet.

So the big question, has anybody used the LV HSS forstners and are they as
good as LV claims or are these just worthless metallic junk - like the
cheapy no name set I got 10 years ago from who knows where? I'm sure I can
return them to LV, but if they are a pretty good set, then I have no
overriding reason to do so.

Thanks

PS - wow 3 posts to OT in one day...pretty good record for a guy hiding
under the porch in the dark

Scott,

I have a set of Lee Valley HSS Forstner bits that I believe i bought about 20
years ago. The instruction sheet in the box is dated 1999 so my recollection of
purchase date is probably correct. I bet on average one of them will get used
once a month and they are still going strong. The bottom of the box says “Made
in China”

When I [put the LV part number from the box into the LV site it comes up w/
this:

so looks right to me.

I have been happy w/ them and they all still cut just fine.

Bill
