I have a 3/8" drive socket extension about 4" long. The female end is a standard square. The male end, unlike a normal extension, has a hex shape. Anyone know what this was intended to attach to? I am guessing there are hex shaped sockets out there that could be driven with this extension. Jerry "Old tools rule" |

There are lots of hex head drivers to drive hex head fasteners - like these for example - https://www.grainger.com/category/tools/ratchets-and-sockets/sockets- and-bits/socket-bits-and-sets?attrs=Bit+Style%7CHex&filters=attrs">https://www.g rainger.com/category/tools/ratchets-and-sockets/sockets-and-bits/socket-bits- and-sets?attrs=Bit+Style%7CHex&filters=attrs I have a set that I use in my impact driver to free difficult fasteners. Or am I missing something? Phil |

There used to be a lot of sets like this back in the day https://www.ebay.com/itm/253743452799?ViewItem=&item=253743452799 I guess your piece would allow mixing the sets w modern? I think this is a pre-1950s thing. Couple of Herbrand catalogs here, might be in there w explanation, might be too late https://archive.org/details/internationaltoolcataloglibrary?and%5B%5D=h erbrand&sin=">https://archive.org/details/internationaltoolcataloglibrary?and%5B %5D=herbrand&sin= On Fri, Feb 15, 2019 at 3:43 PM Jerry Herrman |

Jerry Many early socket set were hex in the sockets and used a large allan wrench to drive them. My dad's first set was like that. I think I still have the allan wrench and box but the sockets went into the scrap metal a long time ago. Nick |
