My souvenir frim South Africa has no markings that I've noticed other than the
blade. Any ideas? The hardware is a bronze color that seems unusual.

Did immigrants bring tools with them, or were they distributed through stores or
dealers?

Jesse,

Aaron Hildick DIAMIC - became part of Henry Taylor, which still uses the DIAMIC
stamp, circa 1948.

Sheffield tools were exported everywhere. It could have come along with an
immigrant to S.A., but it could just as well be a Sheffield commercial export.

Nice find!!!

Thanks John,

Does the plane manufacturer always match the blade? Assuming they weren't a
later marriage, as in did someone make plane bodies, blades sold separately (and
from any manufacturer?)

Thanks again,

Jesse

Not unusual for the plane to not match the iron.

Many companies made only irons. Others made only planes, and bought irons.
