266301 William Ghio 2018‑08‑06 Project finished: Guitar Holder
My daughter recently bought her first guitar and asked for a wall holder for it.
She gave me a few pis of the styles she liked and commented that the one w/
contrasting woods looked nice. I gathered some ideas from the internet and
nailed together a prototype. took the prototype over to Ed Minch’s and test fit
it to a couple of his guitars tp be sure that I had correct dimensions.
Everything looked good so into the wood pile. I found a chunk of Walnut that
came out of a friends firewood pile — he is a very high end custom furniture
maker so some of his firewood is amazing. My wife thought the grain in this
looks more like marble. True.

This stuff is very dense and brittle and small chunks kept coming off the edges.
Luckily, I was able to either shape them away or hide them on the backside. I
had to use a toothing plane and scraper to flatten the stock and after the
dovetails, all shaping was done w/ rasps and sandpaper.

Bill,

Well done, and that is far too beautiful a piece of wood to have been
from a firewood pile.

Hi Bill,
Fantastic. Beautifully designed and executed. Can I have some of your
friends firewood?

That is a really beautiful piece of wood. I like how the straightforward
design doesn't detract from the grain at all.

Just hoping it can be hung where it can be seen, not up near the ceiling
(where a lot of guitars seem to be hung)

Nice work.
